All the baby books talk about playing music for your baby while you're pregnant and the health benefits. I know the baby can hear and react. The funniest example I have of this is my baby's reaction to one man at my work. When I was pregnant and whenever I was in a meeting with this man and he would talk, my daughter would start kicking and moving around. His voice is deep and is a little unusual. It happened in every meeting with him.... and not with others. How crazy... it only confirmed for me that babies do react to sounds and tones.
I bought a few CDs for my daughter when I was carrying her. I have to say my favorite, which continued to be my favorite after she was born wasn't even meant for the "unborn child". It was "Golden Slumbers: A Father's Lullaby". I bought it for my husband for a Father's Day when I was pregnant. I think it ended up being more of a gift for me because I just loved this CD. Call it pregnancy hormones, but "Isn't she lovely" would get me teary eyed every time. I definitely recommend this CD!
"UltraSound - Music for the Unborn Child" is actually meant for playing to your baby while you're carrying him/her. It's basically just a good combo of classical music. This is also good to play at naptime after the baby arrives, too. I think it's also good for the mom to relax. I would just lay there and listen... very relaxing. Almost like meditation. Overall, I prefer the other lullaby one because I tend to like singing songs versus instrumental only.
"The Mozart Effect - Music for Moms and Moms-To-Be" is also good like the UltraSound CD. I think it has the same meditative effects and the research does show that it has positive impacts.
I don't do the whole MP3 thing. But, if you do, I think you can usually get the MP3's on Amazon's site. CD's work best for me so I can take them into the car or wherever.
It's also good to pre-listen to the samples before buying, but that's probably an obvious one ;)
